AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am cut short at 54 holes due to weather, Wyndham Clark clinches victory

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am concluded prematurely at 54 holes, with Wyndham Clark securing victory amidst extreme weather conditions. The PGA Tour’s second signature event of 2024 faced safety concerns and a “Shelter in Place” order for Monterey County, leading to the decision for an early conclusion, as announced by PGA Tour officials on Sunday evening.

“The storm affecting the Monterey Peninsula throughout the day Sunday is forecast to continue into the early hours of Monday with very strong winds. Although conditions are forecast to improve through the morning Monday, after consultation with Monterey County emergency authorities, who have implemented a Shelter in Place order until early tomorrow morning for the greater Pebble Beach community, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of all constituents, there will be no play on Monday. Therefore, in accordance with the PGA Tour Regulations, the tournament results will be final through the conclusion of 54 holes,” stated the release.

Despite being one round shorter, the event marked Wyndham Clark’s third PGA Tour victory. The Denver, Colo., native, who previously won the Wells Fargo Championship and the U.S. Open at LACC during the 2023 season, added another accolade to his burgeoning career.

Clark’s remarkable Saturday round at the iconic oceanside venue included a course-record 60 featuring two eagles, one bogey, and eight birdies. Aware of the possibility of a 54-hole finish, Clark stayed focused during his record-breaking performance.

“I really wasn’t thinking much until you kind of get to that back nine where those last few holes, I was just, you know, see ball, hit ball, try to hit it where I wanted to. I really had a good feel on the greens. So in my mind, I was like, all right, let’s just get us to where we’re putting because the hole seemed like a bucket today,” commented Clark after submitting his impressive scorecard.

In a field marked by challenges posed by gusty winds reaching 60 mph on Sunday, Ludvig Aberg, the 24-year-old Swedish rising star, secured solo second place at 16 under par, with France’s Matthieu Pavon trailing for solo third.

With the final round initially postponed and then ultimately canceled, the PGA Tour season presses on with the WM Phoenix Open, where Scottie Scheffler aims for a three-peat.
