Kirk Herbstreit Stands Firm on Playoff Committee’s Choice, Sparks Ongoing Debate with FSU Fans

The announcement by the College Football Playoff Selection Committee of selecting the Alabama Crimson Tide over the Florida State Seminoles, who had an undefeated 13-0 record, took the Seminoles fans by storm.

Many voices had stated their remarks against the decision of the thirteen-member selection committee. Moving fast-forward, Kirk Herbstreit, who is an ESPN analyst, is still engaging in the debate about the topic that took place many weeks ago.

He is supporting the decision of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee, further defending the move that quarterback Jordan Travis’ injury altered the way the team was assessed by the Committee.

The analyst earlier also believed that the Seminoles should not be included and once again, he was pushing forward his opinions and defending them. Some of the Florida fans were once again issuing their thoughts against him.

The scuffle between Herbstreit and the FSU fans started when the former shared a vintage clip of Joe Montana. In response, the Seminoles supporter inquired what his thoughts were on Montana’s backup, Steve Young, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The supporter shared that if their season should have been dismissed when Young played in Montana’s position. The ESPN analyst, in response, gave a string of laughing emoticons. Other responses followed as many fans came against the analyst.

The analyst also shared in one of his posts which revolved around the recently escalated situation. He said, “Know matter how hard this lunatic fringe portion of the FSU fan base tries I refuse to hold this against the Noles and their real fans. Been a fan of the

Noles teams since the early days of Bobby Bowden in the early 80’s and will continue to respect that brand and its tradition for as long as I’m covering CFB.

See ya in Ireland week 0!!”

The Seminoles’ supporters were still against his decisions and shared their opinions through their posts.

The chair, Boo Corrigan, had also expressed this when the committee revealed their decision, stating, “Florida State is a different team than they were through the first 11 weeks.”

FSU head coach Mike Norvell did not support their decision, which took Travis’ injury as a major detrimental point that stopped the Seminoles from getting further. The head coach had said, “I am disgusted and infuriated with the committee’s decision today to have what was earned on the field taken away because a small group of people decided they knew better than the results of the games.”
