Lou Williams broke the silence in a recent podcast about the famous NBA Bubble episode that transpired last year, causing an uproar in both the sports world and the media at large.
Amid the unprecedented safety measures of the NBA Bubble, mixed with the excitement of the game, resided the stories of players ‘ bending and breaking the rules.
One such player was Lou Williams, famously nicknamed “Lemon Pepper Lou”.
According to Williams, this deviation was purely for indulging in Magic City’s famous chicken wings.
In the aftermath of the incident, however, fellow NBA superstar, Shaquille O’Neal, provided Williams an opportunity to share his side of the story.
O’Neal said, “I had to do something I never wanted to do. I had to go in on you. Because it was going viral and everybody was talking about it.” That’s why he insisted on Williams telling his side of the story, though Lemon Pepper Lou claims it wasn’t that interesting.
Williams’ found himself in hot water when his picture from Magic City with rapper Jack Harlow went viral.
The post’s caption implied that Williams had potentially broken the NBA Bubble’s strict COVID-19 protocol.
Offering his side of the story, Lou clarified that he had sought permission to leave the Bubble to attend a close friend’s funeral. Following the event, he stopped by Magic City., somewhat justifying his detour.
“I’m a block from Magic, we leave here I’m gonna go grab something to eat, then I’mma go and get out.” All the claims alleging he was partying outside the bubble were as he said, “bulls**t.” He said there were about five people with him and he had his mask on the entire time.
Contrary to popular conjecture, Williams insisted that he adhered to the safety protocols, having a personal doctor onboard for regular testing.
Williams recalled the blow-up, “ Open my phone, Twitter is going crazy, Lou Williams sneaks out of the bubble to go to Magic City…” Lou emphasized he followed the rules, he had a doctor with him for regular testing and was on Day 4 of quarantine when the news broke.
The attempt by Harlow to defuse the controversy unfortunately backfired, further adding drama to the incident.
In light of the scandal, Williams passed upon subsequent chances to leave the NBA Bubble, proving that he had learned his lesson from the incident.
“I wanted something to eat, you know what I’m saying, and the wings are good so…”
