Behind the scenes, the San Francisco 49ers professional football team seems to have run into an unexpected snag.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, some members of the squad have raised concern over the firmness of the practice field at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

A group of 49ers staffers, including members of the equipment team and grounds crew, inspected the field recently and found it less firm than they would prefer.
Notably, the NFL had laid natural grass over UNLV’s artificial turf; it appears the newer surface’s softness is what has led to misgivings.
It’s important to remember that this issue is not suspected to be related to player safety. Instead, it seems the 49ers, in keeping with their track record of performance, have a preference for a firmer surface upon which to practice their strategies.
In the light of this development, the 49ers have several alternatives they’re considering. These include persevering with the existing practice turf, bringing in new sod just in time for Wednesday’s practice, or opening negotiations with the NFL about potentially practicing at the Raiders facility instead.
In a somewhat surprising development, it seems the Chiefs are set to practice at the Raiders facility throughout the week.
This may, of course, affect the 49ers’ possibility of using the same venue for their practice sessions.
According to the report, the team plans to conduct a walkthrough on Monday. It’s expected this will act as a deciding point for any next steps they undertake relative to the practice field’s firmness – something that has been a consistent talking point over the past week.
