“My grandmother passed away, NOT my mother” – Chiefs’ OL Jawaan Taylor corrects false death narrative following misinterpretation of his heavy-hearted interview

On Wednesday, in an interview with reporters in Las Vegas, Chiefs’ offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor opened up about a personal loss, saying that his grandmother, Mary had passed away.

Then, Taylor expressed his intention to play in honor of his late grandmother in the upcoming Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers.

Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding in the reporting, leading to the false spread of information that it was Jawaan Taylor’s mother, Wendy who had passed away, not his grandmother.

To clarify the confusion, Taylor turned to X (formerly Twitter), to set the record straight.

In a tweet, he stated, “Just to clear the air… It’s my Grandmother that passed away 4 Days ago, NOT my mother. Long Live Mary Taylor.”

There is also a video circulating on the internet featuring Jawaan Taylor’s mother, Wendy, affirming her well-being.

Adding some background on Jawaan Taylor, he was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round (35th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He faced a brief setback in 2020 when he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the Jaguars on July 28 but was quickly activated five days later.

Throughout his four years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Taylor started every regular season game at right tackle, playing nearly every snap.

On March 16, 2023, he inked a four-year, $80 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the 2023 season with the Kansas City Chiefs, Jawaan Taylor has played in 15 games. His performance statistics for sacks, safeties, pass deflections, interceptions, and touchdowns are all marked as zeros for each season. Over the five seasons, Taylor has accumulated a total of 81 games played, with two solo tackles and two assisted tackles.
