Rex Ryan Eyes NFL Coaching Comeback: Interviews for Dallas Cowboys’ Defensive Coordinator Position

Before becoming one of the top NFL analysts on television, Rex Ryan was one of the most sought-after coaches in the game. Ryan has not coached since 2016 but a comeback is not out of the question.

According to a recent report by The Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, Ryan interviewed with the Dallas Cowboys about their defensive coordinator position. The NFL insider reported the news with a post on her X account on Wednesday.

Dan Quinn’s decision to take the head coaching job with the Washington Commanders has left a vacancy in Dallas. The team has finished 12-5 over their last three seasons and the defense is stacked with talent. The position could be a great opportunity for Ryan to jump back into the game.

Ryan has worked with four different NFL franchises since 1994 when he started as a defensive line and linebackers coach with the Arizona Cardinals. He made a name for himself after building a resilient defense in Baltimore leading to him earning head coaching positions with the New York Jets and then the Buffalo Bills.

The defensive-minded coach had a 46-50 record with the Jets that included a 4-2 playoff record. That included two AFC Championship game appearances in 2009 and 2010. New York has failed to reach the playoffs since.

As a head coach, Ryan has an overall 61-66 record over eight years.

Ryan’s commentary and analysis on ESPN proves that he is still heavily involved with the game and knows his stuff. The Cowboys would be getting an experienced and proven coach if they decide to take a chance on Ryan.
