Former Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule wanted to pick Brock Purdy in the 2022 draft but ultimately overruled.
Purdy will lead the 49ers when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mr Irrelevant went 262nd in the draft and Rhule did not say who scuppered the deal, but it could only have been owner David Teper or then GM Scott Fitterer.
“I think Brock Purdy is an amazing player, played against him at Iowa State,” Rhule said. “When I was in the draft room at Carolina, I brought his name up. I said he should be on the draft board. I got vetoed on that one” said Rhule.
The former Panthers HC is now the head coach at Nebraska saw Purdy take part Baylor for Iowa State.
Now Purdy is in the greatest stage of all, and the Panthers finished last in the league.
