Following the enthralling 25-22 victory in Super Bowl LVIII, Reid didn’t completely suppress the retirement rumors, admitting later, “Yeah, I haven’t had time to think about it.”
Contrary to rumors, Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt shared post-playoffs on NFL Network with James Palmer that he totally expects Reid, who sits at an enviable place of having secured three or more rings, to return for the 2024 season.
“I expect Andy to be back next year as we go for the three-peat,” Hunt said.
This places Reid in an exclusive coaching group with notable names like Bill Belichick, Chuck Noll, Joe Gibbs, and Bill Walsh.
And justifiably so, Reid’s remarkable contribution to the Chiefs and his prolific career sets him apart as one of the finest coaches in the NFL.
Beyond his Super Bowl triumphs, Reid remains fourth on the all-time coaching victories list and holds the second spot in postseason wins.
Partnering with the MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Reid has steered the Chiefs to unparalleled success.
Mahomes, who has won Super Bowl MVP in all three of Reid’s championships with the Chiefs, unequivocally supports Reid as the all-time HC1.
“I believe he’s the best coach of all time,” Patrick Mahomes said after winning Super Bowl LVIII. “I mean I know he doesn’t have the trophies yet, and I have a lot of respect for some of those great coaches, but …
“For me, he brings out the best in me because he lets me be me.”
He shared his admiration for Reid’s remarkable ability “to navigate every single team he has” and “continue to have success no matter where he’s at.”
The 2023 season presented a unique set of adversities for the Chiefs, with a series of losses and inconsistent performances.
This underscored the team’s composure, reinforcing the Chiefs’ resilience and commitment under Reid’s leadership.
Despite being faced with the worst statistics throughout his Super Bowl journey, Reid stuck to his guns and guided the Chiefs to victory in a classic Reid-like style.
Sunday’s victory further highlighted Reid’s legacy. While Pete Carroll, Bill Belichick, and Reid have been recognized as the elite statesmen of the league, Reid now stands alone on the hill of glory.
As he prepares for the 2024 season aiming for a ‘three-peat’, we eagerly await the next chapter in Reid’s illustrious career.
“My pitch to (Reid) is Patrick’s under contract for another eight years,” Hunt said, laughing before turning serious. “No, I know Andy loves what he’s doing. We certainly appreciate him as a family. Our organization is what it is because of Andy, and he’s got a special relationship with everybody in it.”
