There will be many moments in the minds of the 49ers as they replay their Superbowl loss to the Chiefs, but they should not be too hard on themselves.
Running back Christian McCaffrey is already replaying the moment he dropped the ball on their first possession of the day.
The league’s leading running back and MVP finalist rushed for 160 yards and went in for a touchdown, but he will not forget, at least for now, that dropped catch.
In the dreaded post loss press conference, McCaffrey was upset to lose in his first trip to the Super Bowl.
“It hurts deep,” McCaffrey said.
“It’s something that you dream about as a kid. You’ve worked so hard for all year and come up short. I think you just have to go through all the emotions as they come, but each day just chip away getting back to normal. I don’t know how long it’s going to take. It’s still fresh and it still sucks.”
He admits the team’s self-inflicted fumbles, including his own, ultimately cost them the Superbowl.
The young super start should not be so hard on himself, he had on heck of a season.
