The loss against the Chiefs in the Superbowl would have hurt the 49ees and it seems the pain is not going to go away soon.
At least not for linebacker Dre Greenlaw who tore his left Achilles and for head coach Shanahan who has to put on a brave face with squad selections and draft picks just around the corner.
"I mean, injuries are part of the game," Shanahan said. "They’re always a big deal, and it’s always tougher when you lose good guys like that."
The Chiefs won back-to-back Superbowl titles with a 25-22 overtime win.
"That’s depressing," tight end George Kittle told Danny Emerman of the Bay Area News Group.
"To get injured in the Super Bowl? Hopefully he hits up Aaron Rodgers and figures out how to heal up quickly. Besides that, Dre’s the heartbeat of our defense, Fred [Warner] and him. They feed off each other."
Rodgers tore his Achilles on the opening day of the season but was seen training after 77 days, which is unbelievable for this type of injury.
"I’m sick to my stomach," Warner said. "I’m still sick. I [saw] him at halftime, and I’m just crying, so hurt for him and obviously wanting to win this for him."
