Darrion Williams of Texas Tech was sensational as the unranked Red Raiders whipped the sixth ranked Kansas Jayhawks 79-50 victory.
The blowout loss was too much to handle for Jayhawks head coach Bill Self who was ejected for the first time in his 21 seasons at Kansas.
The loss was not only upsetting but also historic as the 29-point defeat equalled Kansas" largest loss by margin against an unranked opponent (in the AP poll era since 1948-49).
The only other it happened was 73 years ago against Kentucky in 1950.
Unranked home wins are becoming the norm as this marked the 33rd time an unranked opponent has beaten an AP rated team on the road.
Williams was the star of the show, apart from the ejection, as the sophomore transfer from Nevada, went 12-12 and 30 points on 12-of-12 shooting, including four 3-pointers.
“Give him credit because [of] his work habits and his belief in this team. … I do believe the game rewards those people that play it to win," Red Raiders coach Grant McCasland said.
“What an awesome combination he was tonight of scoring and facilitating and rebounding and just winning."
Self becomes the third Big 12 coach to be ejected in February.
