“It was way too much” was Chris “Mad Dog” Russo’s stance when it came to the Super Bowl coverage of celebrity singer and songwriter Taylor Swift.
Russo is known for his outspoken, candid, and at time brutally honest takes and the radio host once gain did not hold back. Speaking on a recent episode of his show Mad Dog Radio the host went after CBS for overdoing it during Sunday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.
Taylor Swift is a pop and cultural icon and currently one of the biggest celebrities on the planet. Her highly-publicized relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been a subplot throughout the NFL season.
Radio host and popular sports personality Chris Russo is the latest to target the networks for their coverage of Swift during NFL games.
“They must’ve gone to that suite for Taylor Swift 9,000 times,” said Russo. “This is CBS and I understand you got to show a little Taylor Swift but they went way over the top.”
This is the benefit of not being on Twitter and not caring about Twitter. You can give this take and not have to worry about the mob coming after you. Here’s @MadDogUnleashed ripping CBS for the absurd amount of Taylor Swift shots during the Super Bowl. pic.twitter.com/G8NTmTxXVF

Post game numbers showed that the camera’s panned over to Swift for just 54 seconds during Sunday’s game at Allegiant Stadium. She received just 38 seconds of airtime in the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. That was still too much for Mad Dog.
Russo acknowledged that girls aged 13-23 can’t get enough of Swift but argued that is not the primary demographic for football fans.
“This is supposed to be a football audience and it was way over the top,” added Russo.
Whether you like her or not, Swift’s impact on the NFL cannot be understated. This year’s Super Bowl broke the previous record with an average audience of 123.1 million viewers. Super Bowl commercials were selling for a whopping $7 million for a 30-second space. A recent post from Front Office Sports reported Swift has brought in $331.5 million for the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL and that was before the Super Bowl.
