As reported by The Atheltic, Doc Rivers will be replaced by JJ Redick, who will be joining Mike Breen and Doris Burke on ABC/ESPN’s NBA Finals broadcast team.

Rivers retired from his broadcasting career and will be returning to the sidelines as the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, ESPN reported to have found his replacement.

39-year-old Redick filled in for Rivers after he left three months into his first season of a three-year contract to return to coaching, signed as part of the new trio with Breen and Burke.

Reddick new role is part of his rise in the media, which began from his 15-year NBA career. The veteran also gained praise after his popular podcast, “The Old Man And The Three.”

After his retirement from the NBA, he joined ESPN in September 2021, he began his career as an analyst on shows like First Take and quickly transitioned to calling NBA games.

On Stephen A. Smith’s show “First Take” he made some headlines and then soon moved to calling games. Now, he is onto the most prestigious spot in NBA broadcasting for the rest of the season, through the playoffs and the finals.

Before this season, Redick was also named to ESPN’s No. 2 NBA broadcast team with play-by-play man Ryan Ruoco and fellow former NBA veteran Richard Jefferson.

The addition of Redick underlined as the latest change to ESPN’s top NBA team over the past year. The changes made were after firing analysts Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson last summer, and the network hired Rivers, who had just been fired by the Philadelphia 76ers, to join Breen and Burke in the booth.
