The Brooklyn Nets waived Thaddeus Young after acquiring him from the Toronto Raptors in a trade involving Dennis Schröder and Spencer Dinwiddie just before the NBA trade deadline.

This move was made to create space on the roster for the completion of the Royce O’Neale trade, bringing in Keita Bates-Diop and Jordan Goodwin.

Shortly after being waived, Thaddeus Young is now in the final stages of securing a contract with the Phoenix Suns, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Suns were actively seeking forward help during the trade deadline, and they ultimately acquired Royce O’Neale and David Roddy in a three-team deal.

Phoenix had open roster spots after trading out Yuta Watanabe, Chimezie Metu, Keita Bates-Diop, and Jordan Goodwin. One of these spots is expected to be filled by Thaddeus Young for the remainder of the season.

Thaddeus Young was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2007, has had a notable career playing for several teams, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, and Toronto Raptors.

Throughout his career, Young achieved milestones such as setting career highs in points, steals, assists, and three-pointers during the 2013-14 season. He was recognized as the Eastern Conference Player of the Week in 2018 while playing for the Pacers.

In 2022, Young was traded to the Toronto Raptors and signed a two-year, $16 million contract extension. However, on February 8, 2024, he found himself on the move again, joining the Brooklyn Nets alongside Dennis Schröder, only to be waived on the same day.
