“Once she hits that milestone, you have a little weight off your back”. – Veteran Iowa broadcaster Bob Brooks cannot wait for Caitlin Clark to break the NCAA women’s basketball scoring record this week

Caitlin Clark is on the verge of creating history when the Iowa basketballer takes on Michigan on Thursday night.

Clark needs eight points to surpass the 3,527 points record, held by Kelsey Plum.

Clark will line up for the fourth ranked University of Iowa NCAA women’s team clash against the 16-8 Michigan team.

Awful Announcing caught up with legendary of the Hawkeye Radio Network’s Bob Brooks.

The 57-year-old broadcaster has seen firsthand the rise and rise of Clark.

He said: “It’s a huge milestone. When you look at any record in basketball, that’s always number one, right? It’s out there, and I’m sure it weighs on the back of her mind and her teammates’ minds. But they’ve always put winning first. Now, you’d expect it to happen pretty early Thursday night. Once she hits that milestone, you have a little weight off your back”.

When asked the exact date the broadcaster noticed Clark he said, “I go back to her sophomore year game at Michigan. Iowa had some injuries to some starters, and Michigan had a good team. They were in the top ten at the time. And through three quarters, Iowa was down more than 20 points.

“At the start of the fourth quarter, she takes a couple of steps over the half-court line and fires a three. There were still probably 25 seconds left on the shot clock. And it goes in. The next time down the court, she does the same thing. She had 25 points in that quarter and pulled Iowa to within five midway through the fourth quarter. Iowa ended up losing, but that moment stands out. “‘Wow, this could this could be something special.”

And here’s the kicker, Clark is a gigantic Chiefs fan and she got to watch Kansas win the Superbowl, and that can only encourage her to break and extend the record.

“She’s a huge Chiefs fan. She has been to games every single year. She grew up in Des Moines, that’s only about three hours from Kansas City. There are a lot of Chiefs fans over there. She’s been a Chiefs fan from a young age, so it’s not like she just jumped on (the bandwagon) since they’ve become good. I think there are pictures of her as a kid running around in Chiefs jerseys.”
