Golden State Pursued LeBron James in Trade Talks, Lakers Firmly Reject Proposal

The Golden State Warriors have had a rough 2023 season but that did not stop them from going after one of the biggest names in the NBA before the trade deadline. According to a recent ESPN piece, sources informed NBA insiders Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne the Warriors attempted a bold trade to bring LeBron James to the Bay Area.

An ESPN post on Instagram broke down the back and forth between the Warriors owner Joe Lacob and Lakers owner Jeanie Buss. Lacob was interested in submitting a proposal to bring the four-time NBA champion to Northern California and partner him with Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson in the hopes of reviving their season. The suggesting was quickly rejected by Buss with James also preferring to stay with the Lakers.

According to sources, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul informed the Warriors that Lebron is keen to remain with Lakers.

Draymond Green was apparently one of the players keen to lure James to Northern California. The two players have a close relationship and Green has been one for James biggest supporters over the years.

James’ apparent frustration during certain points of the season was also cited as a possible reason the superstar  might be interested in a trade. Los Angeles sit ninth in the Western Conference Standing with a 29-26 record and have struggled to get going this year.

Since James’ highly publicized move to Los Angeles in 2018, he gone on to play in 327 games and average 27 points per game. He led the team to the 2020 championship, defeating the Miami Heat 4-2.
