Three-time WNBA champion and TNT analyst, Candace Parker, had earlier attracted the ire of the Knicks and NBA community with her remarks on point guard of the New York Knicks, Jalen Brunson, and her contradictory tellings were cleared by his stats. She has now shared further assessment and has also expressed her opinions clearly.
The New York Knicks are fourth in the Eastern Conference and for the season, they are standing at 33-21. The two-time WNBA MVP stated that it was “no slight on Brunson” as per the NY Post. With her opinions, she asserted that a team could find it tough to win a title with a smaller guard.
Parker had said earlier, as per SI, “When the game slows down in the playoffs, and you get jammed up, we’ve seen Jalen Brunson in the playoffs with the (Dallas Mavericks) and he was No. 2, No. 3, came in, played minutes, supplemented Luka (Doncic) handling the ball. But as a No. 1 option last year in the playoffs, great first round, second round not so much.”
Recently, Parker had further continued on Brunson to explain what she was suggesting when she made earlier remarks, which caused upheaval in the Knicks community. She shared, “Well, I feel like, first of all, I love Knicks fans … and I get it. What I was alluding to was the fact that in the first round of the playoffs, he was the best player on the court against Donovan Mitchell.”
“And the second round, especially on the defensive end, Miami picked on him a great deal. And Jimmy Butler was, in fact, the best player on the court. And my thing was basically it was no slight on Jalen Brunson. I think he makes everybody better around him. I think he makes winning plays. My point was, who are the Knicks going to go after to put next to Jalen Brunson to be that guy and to be that No. 1 guy in those moments?”
Further continuing she said, “I think what the Knicks have done in this trade, and in the season, that has been surrounding him with defense, which was something that they struggled with last year and getting stops against Miami in the playoffs. So that was my hot take.”
