Tony Romo was a talented, efficient and adored quarterback during his playing days with the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, as a commentator, he can sometimes be a polarizing figure.
Romo, now working with CBS, was a member of the broadcast crew for Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas. Brought in for his insights, many felt that Romo’s commentary during the game-sealing touchdown was way of the the top.
During a recent episode of Airing It Out it out on SiriusXM radio, former Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis slammed Romo for his analysis following Patrick Mahomes touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman.
“I listen to the end of the game and listened to Tony Romo ruin the moment. Just shut up and let us savor the moment. Just be quiet,” said Weis.

Historically, commentators have remained silent during game ending plays to allow the fans to enjoy the historic moment. Romo saw it as the perfect moment to sprinkle in some analysis.
“I don’t need to hear your analysis of what just happened. I just watched it. I want to watch the moment and enjoy the moment as a sports fan,” added Weis.
Weis, who was a college head coach and worked as an offensive coordinator on several NFL teams, went on to say he does appreciate certain commentators.
“There are some announcers I really enjoy listening to. But then there’s announcers where if I have to listen, I’d rather go to the bathroom and throw up,” said Weis.
