On Friday afternoon, Tiger Woods was carted off the Riviera Country Club and withdrawn from the 2024 Genesis Invitational, as revealed, due to flu-like symptoms.

The Genesis Invitational marked Woods’ first PGA Tour tournament since he withdrew from the 2023 Masters, but it has ended the same.

Woods returned to the PGA Tour competition after he withdrew from the 2023 Masters, and ended up being carted off the course seven holes into the second round.

Mark Dusbabek, a PGA Tour rules official, said Woods’ illness is not related to his previous suspected ankle or back.

Rob McNamara of TGR Ventures shared he started experiencing “flu-like symptoms” on Thursday night. McNamara said, via the PGA Tour,

“Woke up this morning, they were worse than the night previous. He had a little bit of a fever and was better during the warm-up, but then when he got out there and was walking and playing, he started feeling dizzy. Ultimately, the doctors are saying he’s got some — potentially some type of flu and that he was dehydrated. He’s been treated with an IV bag, and he’s doing much, much better, and he’ll be released on his own here soon.”

As per James Colgan of Golf.com, manager Rob McNamara said Woods was given an IV and “potentially has some type of flu”.

On Friday, started the second round with a birdie on the first hole, before surrendering back-to-back bogeys on holes four and five. Woods finished the first day of the competition tied for 57th among 70 competitors as he dealt with back spasms during the first 18 holes.

The 2024 season is the third straight year that had him limited in competition due to health reasons, with only five official appearances in 2022 and 2023 combined.
