The fourteen-time NBA All-Star Kevin Durant and star of the Phoenix Suns recently shared his opinions on those players who will take the helm after the current icons retire from the illustrious league. He spoke to the media ahead of the All-Star weekend.
According to Fadeaway World, Durant shared, “I think each era has five, six, seven guys that can help carry the game forward. It’s more than just Steph, LeBron, and myself it’s James Harden, it’s Russell Westbrook, it’s Kawhi Leonard… a lot of these guys will inspire the next generation of hoopers to want to be professionals. It’s more than just a few guys. I look around the league and I see Shai, Ant, Book, Luka, Tyrese Maxey, Tyrese Haliburton, it’s so many guys that are inspiring the next generation of hoopers after them to become basketball players.”
The two-time NBA champion, and veteran power forward still has good years ahead of him but it cannot be said how long he will grace the basketball court as this decision solely depends on him.
The two-time NBA Finals MVP is also confident that the league will continue to feature more superstars once the current ones leave the court. He also shared that the best ones cannot be concluded with a couple but there are many who are incredibly talented.
One of the upcoming names, according to the report, is the Dallas Mavericks’ star, Luka Doncic. The young star, who is already on the verge of becoming an incredible player, is garnering positive attention with his performances, especially this season.
With his current average of 34.2 points, 9.5 assists, and 8.8 rebounds per game, Luka is displaying spectacular skills. His shooting percentage is 49.2, which is another point adding to his already dominating game.
The other star who captured attention in the FIBA Basketball World Cup and in the league is the guard of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. His average is 31.1 points per game and with that, he has the skills to come up to the top spots of the league once the icons retire.
However, there are other prominent talents whose names might come into the ranks and they are the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis c, the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, the Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards, and the Phoenix Suns Devin Booker.
