The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the second consecutive time, and with that, the squad’s defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, has become a four-time Super Bowl champion as well.
However, his success with the Chiefs squad has not yet resulted in him garnering more leading opportunities.
According to Pro Football Talk, conducting and assisting squads as a coordinator who has won Super Bowls often leads to head coaching opportunities.
Spagnuolo was the head coach of the St. Louis Rams from 2009 to 2011. Then, in 2017, he was also appointed interim head coach of the New York Giants. However, recently, the prominent defensive coordinator shared that he would like another opportunity to lead a team but also stated that he is content with his current position with the Kansas City squad.
As per PFT via SiriusXM on Mad Dog Sports Radio, he shared, “I’ve been asked this question a lot, I’ll answer it the same way. Absolutely would want to. We’re prideful guys in this business. It wasn’t a success when I was in St. Louis, although I think what gets lost in this is when we went from Year One to Year Two, in that second year in 2010, had we won the last game of the season we’re in the playoffs and hosting a playoff game against the New Orleans Saints.”
“It didn’t happen, then we hit the lockout and things didn’t go well and we were gone. The answer to the question is yes, but I always follow up with this. If it never happens and it’s God’s will that I continue to do what I’m doing, I’m a blessed man.”
With Super Bowl LVIII with the Chiefs, Spagnuolo has become the first coordinator to achieve such a feat. He will continue with the squad and as per the report with prominent quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, they might go on to win more titles. If the Chiefs are able to get more, then Spagnuolo will be on the road to becoming one of the most prolific assistants in the league.
