Brooklyn Nets Dismiss Head Coach Jacque Vaughn After Dismal 21-33 Start to season Sees Team Drop Out of Playoff Picture

After a disappointing start to the NBA season, The Brooklyn Nets have dismissed Jacque Vaughn according to multiple reports.

Vaughn reign as the organization’s head coach lasted less than 16 months, although he has been with the club as an assistant coach since 2016. The departure of Steve Nash saw Vaughn promoted, but a turbulent spell at the helm sees the 49-year-old former player let go after just 129 games in charge.

The decision comes as a major shock considering less than a year ago the organization decided to extend Vaughn to a multiyear deal that was reportedly set to run through the 2026-27 season.

A dismal 21-33 start to the season did little to reassure the Nets management that Vaughn was the right man for the job. Brooklyn sit 11th in the East and are 2.5 games out of the final playoff spot. They are currently 21.5 games behind the Conference-leading Boston Celtics.

The Nets offense ranks 21st in points scored, 27th in team field goal percentage and 15th in three-point percentage. Their defense is not doing much better allowing 115.1 points per game, ranking them 16th in the NBA.

The Nets will be in the market to hire their seventh head coach since 2016. Jacque Vaughn was supposed to be the man to rebuild this organization after a flurry of trades saw the roster lose some of their top talent over the last 12 months. In the end, a 64-65 overall record saw the front office finally lose patience with the veteran coach.
