On Sunday, Hideki Matsuyama won the 2024 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, after coming back from six strokes off the lead to win his first PGA Tour event since January 2022.

Matsuyama shot a bogey-free 9-under 62 to win the Genesis at 17, chased down, and raced past a star-studded leaderboard on Sunday.

Jordan Spieth on Sunday was disqualified after incorrectly signing a scorecard at the end of the second round and cut his week short.

The 13-time PGA winner, Spieth wrote a hilarious tweet being disqualified and on the same tweet congratulated Hideki for winning at Riviera. He wrote,

“Great playing Hideki!, Just make sure you double-check that scorecard”

Hideki finished the week at 17 under for a three-stroke victory over Will Zalatoris and Luke List and secured his ninth PGA Tour victory of his career, his first since the 2022 Sony Open.

He recorded nine birdies and no bogeys, he posted the second-lowest round in course history and the lowest in the fourth round of a tournament at Riviera. His accolades now count as a major championship, two World Golf Championships, and a signature event to his name.

Hideki topped the field at the culmination of 72 holes, he was hardly top of mind with 18 to play. Beginning the day at 8 under and a half dozen strokes behind 18-, 36- and 54-hole leader Patrick Cantlay.

The 31-year-old birdied the tricky par-4 10th on a 9-foot putt. He birdied the par-5 11th after hitting his second shot to 11 inches. He birdied the par-4 12th on a 46-foot bomb. At this point, he was at 14-under, and he was soon tied for the lead.
