“Steve is still ahead of me” Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Humbles Himself, Recognizes Steve Nash as Canadian Hoops Legend

The point guard of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, had a marvelous outing during the NBA All-Star 2024. The Canadian sensation posted 31 points in the game.

Gilgeous-Alexander had garnered attention from the community for his play during the FIBA World Cup as well. He was one of the key players who led the Canadian team to the third spot in the tournament.

The Ontario native is now being considered one of the best Canadian players in the league. However, he has differing thoughts on this remark. According to NBACentral, Gilgeous-Alexander shares that the Hall of Fame icon Steve Nash is still above him.

The two-time NBA All-Star shared, “Steve is still ahead of me. I’m going to try to catch him, but he’s still ahead of me.”

The Hall of Famer and eight-time NBA All-Star, Steve Nash, was selected in the 1996 NBA Draft in the first round as the fifteenth overall pick. During his prominent career in the league, he played with three teams, such as the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nash went on to become one of the best players in the NBA during his prime time and was also the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player and a five-time NBA Assists Leader. His number 13 was retired by the Phoenix Suns’ squad as well. He was also named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.

Gilgeous-Alexander has a long way to go but with his current skill set and talented way of playing, there is high potential that the Thunder player will go on to become one of the best Canadians in the league.
