Ahead of the team’s first full workout, Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt took in the franchise’s State of the Team address without much interest in motivational speeches. Instead, he turned his attention to improving his own game for the upcoming season.

Despite the team’s optimistic outlook for bouncing back in 2024, Goldschmidt emphasized the importance of proving themselves on the field rather than making bold predictions. He believes in letting their performance speak for itself and understands that winning games is the ultimate measure of success.

After a disappointing 2023 season with a 71-91 record, the Cardinals underwent significant roster changes, particularly in the pitching staff. New additions like Sonny Gray, Kyle Gibson, and Lance Lynn are expected to strengthen the team, and the focus now is on integrating these players and building team cohesion.

Manager Oliver Marmol expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, highlighting the positive atmosphere in the team meeting held before the workouts began. He praised Goldschmidt for his consistency and leadership both on and off the field.

While Goldschmidt’s statistics may have dipped in 2023 compared to his MVP-winning season in 2022, his underlying metrics still indicate strong performance. With his impressive work ethic and commitment to improvement, Marmol believes Goldschmidt, along with teammate Nolan Arenado, is poised for a standout season.
