McMichael, who revealed his ALS diagnosis three years ago, was rushed last week to intensive care at a local hospital in Chicago.
According to sources, the sixty-six-year-old veteran was primarily diagnosed with a urinary tract infection which was soon accompanied by MRSA, a dire antibiotic-resistant staph infection.
The health complications didn’t end there for the former Bears defensive lineman. McMichael required an urgent blood transfusion due to his deteriorating condition, increasing the concern of fans and well-wishers.
However, in the last few days, the Hall of Famer has shown considerable improvement. This significant recovery has allowed for his expected discharge on Thursday, as confirmed by Betsy Shepherd.
Steve McMichael, fondly known to his fans as “Mongo,” is a revered figure in the realm of American football.
He has extended across thirteen seasons and played a crucial role in their Super Bowl XX victory.
This year marked another significant milestone in McMichael’s illustrious career as he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
McMichael is scheduled for induction with the Class of 2024 in Canton, Ohio, this coming August.
The ceremony promises to be an emotional occasion, commemorating the achievements of this stellar athlete.
