Bryson DeChambeau Expresses Frustration Over LIV Golf’s OWGR Stalemate

Bryson DeChambeau expressed frustration with the delay in granting Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points to the LIV Golf League, funded by Saudi Arabia. Speaking on the Fairway to Heaven podcast, the former US Open champion emphasized that LIV Golf has met all the necessary criteria for OWGR points but has faced obstacles in gaining legitimacy.

DeChambeau, who accepted a lucrative offer from LIV Golf and was subsequently suspended from the PGA Tour, has found his opportunities to earn OWGR points limited to major championships. He described the situation as “crazy" and voiced his frustration over the OWGR board"s decision to reject LIV Golf"s application for ranking points.

"I have words that I would love to say, but you can’t about it. They say, ‘Oh they haven’t said one thing or the other’, not doing anything is deciding, and that’s frustrating, They said you need certain requirements, we’ve fulfilled all of those requirements despite what everybody thinks. If you look at their handbook, we have fulfilled every single criteria, it’s been over two years now. What’s going on, guys? It’s a bit frustrating but (there’s) nothing we can do at this moment. We showcase ourselves in the major championships, there’s no way they can keep us out. We have to play well in the majors and once we do, they have no choice." Said Bryson DeChambeau

Despite LIV Golf fulfilling the criteria outlined in the OWGR handbook, including over two years of compliance, DeChambeau and his colleagues continue to be excluded from earning world ranking points. The OWGR board cited concerns over LIV Golf"s predominantly “closed-style" league and the team format, which runs alongside individual events, as reasons for their decision.

As a result of their inability to earn OWGR points, DeChambeau"s world ranking has dropped to 169th, with his last qualifying event being the 151st Open at Hoylake. While players on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour have access to OWGR points, DeChambeau and his LIV Golf counterparts have seen their rankings suffer, with only five LIV players currently ranked in the top 50.
