Bronny James, a 19-year old freshman basketball player for the University of Southern California, is making strides in his basketball career despite some health setbacks.
His debut game was delayed due to a cardiac arrest that required a considerable recovery period during the summer.
Maintaining an average of 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per outing over just twenty minutes per game, in his total 19 games for USC, Bronny’s performance is modest.
With USC’s record at 11-16, his contributions have been substantial.
His chances of making a first-round pick seem slim, even in ESPN’s 2025 mock draft.
ESPN has slotted Bronny in the second round at No. 39 overall, offering a glimpse of the potential course his career could take.
One former NBA executive likened Bronny’s potential to that of Orlando Magic guard, Gary Harris, who was a first-round pick (No. 19 overall) in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Transitioning into the 2024 NBA Draft is still an option for Bronny. Many believe it’s the most viable path.
With Adam Finkelstein of 247Sports stating, “It’s very possible and probably likely that he still declares for the draft after the year.”
LeBron James, a seasoned NBA player and Bronny’s father, stated the decision isn’t his to make. “It’s up to him, it’s up to the kid,” he said, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming Pac-12 tournament for Bronny’s career trajectory.
“We’re going to go through the whole process. He’s still in season now. He has the Pac-12 tournament coming up. … We’re going to weigh all options and we’re going to let the kid make the decision.”
The possibility of adding Bronny to the Lakers roster has been entertained to keep the superstar LeBron content in his twilight basketball years.
