Exclusive: Tigers star on Detroit legend Miguel Cabrera: “He treats everybody the same, you can ask him anything”

Parker Meadows, an outfielder for the Detroit Tigers is expected to play a pivotal role for the Detroit Tigers in the upcoming MLB season as they chase their first AL Central Divisional title in 10 years.

Meadows admits he is a huge fan of Detroit legend Miguel Cabrera, the big-hitting Venezuelan, who won a World Series, a 2-time AL MVP, and a 12-time All-Star, and that the first baseman was a team man through and through.

“He just has such a fun time, and he treats everybody the same,” Meadows told Overtime Heroic’s senior editor Reggie Roberts in an exclusive interview.

“The first conversation we had, I felt like I knew Miggy for like my whole life. Literally, you can ask him anything and he’ll give you a reasonable answer in such a simple conversation, where he was open.”

Meadows, who signed for the Tigers in August 2023 made his Tigers debut on August 21st against the Chicago Cubs, making his first major league hit, coming in at third at-bat.

Just four days later he scored his first home run, a three-run walk-off to right field smashing pitcher Ryan Presley of the Astros long and far in a comfortable 4-1 win.

“I remember the first-time meeting Miguel Cabrera … I was so nervous.

He’s just such a pro and I’ll be looking forward to seeing him around the clubhouse this year, him being part of the front office,” he added.

Alan Trammell is another Tigers legend who endeared himself to Meadows, with the short-stop spending his entire 20-year playing career in Detroit. He has been a special assistant to the GM since 2014 and has made a positive impression on Meadows and the rest of the team.

Alan Trammell is another person you can really tell loves the game, and he just wants to get, you know, people in this organization to be better and he is a very, very good guy … just a pleasure to be around.”

With such Detroit luminaries high on his list of heroes that have exceeded his expectations, there is growing hope that Meadows and the rest of the team and create a winning legacy and soon try emulating the team of 1984, the last to win a World Series title.
