Renowned golfer Jon Rahm has shed light on the key factors influencing his decision to join LIV Golf, stating that financial considerations played a significant role in his move away from the PGA Tour.
In an interview Rahm discussed the substantial compensation he is set to receive with LIV Golf, emphasizing the impact it will have on his career and family.
“I"m being paid more to play the same sport and have more time," Rahm affirmed.
“The best way I can explain it is, live golf wasn"t a thing or a possibility for us growing up. The PGA Tour was the pinnacle of golf, right? This is a new change, a big change, and I don"t want to skip through this point because… there"s no point," Rahm expressed.
Rahm, a father and husband, also highlighted his duty to set his family up for the best possible future. While acknowledging his family"s existing privileges, he emphasized his commitment to providing the best for them.
The financial terms of Rahm"s contract with LIV Golf have not been officially disclosed, but estimates suggest a staggering figure of around $600 million.
Despite his move to LIV Golf, Rahm affirmed his interest in continuing to compete in the PGA Tour and DP World Tour tournaments, provided he is allowed to do so.
The golfer, who secured victory at The Masters in 2023, suggested that winning at Augusta National played a role in his decision, hinting that the outcome might have been different if he had not clinched that victory.
Rahm made his debut at the 2024 LIV Golf Mayakoba, finishing third individually and contributing to his team, Legion XIII, securing victory in the tournament.
