Team USA recently underwent a shocking defeat at the hands of Cuba in the FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers 2025. Cuba defeated Team USA with a concluding score of 81-67.
With this astonishing defeat, Cuba has reached history and outperformed Team USA which has nine players with NBA experience. Cuba has defeated the US team after more than five decades.
Even though Team USA lost the match up, their efforts were noteworthy from the players such as Jayce Johnson, RaiQuan Gray, and Jahmius Ramsey. However, their efforts were insufficient to overcome the incredible performance given by Cuba.
The nine NBA players who joined the US Team were as per Fadeaway World, Gerald Hannahs, Deonte Burton, Jahmius Ramsey, Jeff Dowtin, Matthew Hurt, Gray, Elfrid Payton Jr., Jordan Bell, and Stanley Johnson. Cuba did not participate in the last two campaigns of Americup.
The Cuba team was led by players like Pedro Bombino, Marcos Chacon, and Jasiel Rivero. The president of the Cuban team stated regarding the win as, “historic, sensational, and inspiring”. Cuba’s capacity to compete at such a level and their commitment to the sport were prominently demonstrated by the triumph.
