In a recent interview with ESPN, former Southern California quarterback Caleb Williams disclosed his outlook on the 2024 NFL Draft, indicating a welcoming attitude towards being chosen by the Chicago Bears as their top overall pick.
However, the talented 2022 Heisman Trophy winner also acknowledges interest in other NFL franchises.
Williams’ open-mindedness about his draft pick was evident during his discussion with ESPN. “If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited,” he shared, “If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited.” Speaking about Chicago, they have a talented team, a talented offense and defense. For anyone to be in that situation, I think they’d be excited.”
Caleb Williams goes in-depth with ESPN’s @PeteThamel on the Bears, the Commanders and more. “If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited,” Williams told Thamel. “If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited.”

This week, Williams is all set to arrive at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. He is expected to meet with various franchises, including the Bears, Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, and the Las Vegas Raiders, according to NFL Network.
“I’m not pushing any agenda,” Williams said. “At the end of the day, the Bears have the last say. Regardless of how I feel, I’m not pushing an agenda of, ‘Yeah, I want to go. Or no, I don’t want to go.’ I’m excited for whatever comes.”
More than anything, the burning question for the Bears right now is whether bringing Williams onboard might offer a more suitable quarterback solution than sticking with their 2021 first-round pick, Justin Fields.
If the Bears turn down the opportunity to take Williams, the Washington Commanders might present a desirable alternative.
As a native of Washington, D.C., representing his hometown team could be an appealing prospect for Williams.
“It’d be really cool because it’s so familiar,” he said. “There’s a time and place for everything. My job and my hobby is being at the facility or on the field or watching film. Or relaxing and prepping for the next day or game.
“My main goal and focus … is to go win games and stay focused on keeping the main goal the main goal.”
However, Williams will not be putting his skills on display at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. He plans instead to showcase his abilities during USC’s Pro Day on March 20.
Williams had stellar individual performances at USC, where he accumulated 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns, and just five interceptions over 12 games in a single season.
Despite his impressive stats, USC ended the season with a less than desirable 8-5 record.
