DeMarcus Cousins suggests pairing Trae Young with Victor Wembanyama to create dynamic duo in San Antonio

DeMarcus Cousins, who is currently not on an NBA team, shared his insight on a potential trade involving Trae Young and the San Antonio Spurs.

In a conversation with Rachel Nichols, Cousins expressed his hope that Young would not stay with the Atlanta Hawks, believing that his talent is being wasted there.

Cousins, drawing from his own experience, claimed that Young’s prime should not be wasted, urging him to consider a move to the San Antonio Spurs.

“I hope not. I hope this is the last time we see him in a Hawks uniform. I feel like his talent is being wasted, his prime is being wasted. Get healthy, get 100% correct whether that is in Atlanta, or you know, fingers crossed, the San Antonio Spurs,”

Cousins said during a recent conversation online with Rachel Nichols.

Cousins sees this as a perfect match, stating that the Hawks team is not utilizing Young’s talent effectively. Young, who has a guaranteed contract until the end of the 2025-26 NBA season, has the option to terminate early in 2026-27.

“It’s a match made in heaven; it just makes sense. This Hawks team is not doing anything for his talent. I take it personal because I was in that situation once and hopefully this offseason, this is the season where he puts his foot down and uses his power and move to a situation that is going to be healthy for him.”

Young has a contract until 2025-26 NBA season with an option to terminate in 2026-27. Wembanyama is a budding superstar still learning in the league.

Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama, a promising player in the league, is still developing his skills.

Although the Spurs haven’t seen much success with Wembanyama, Cousins speculates that Young could be the missing piece to unlock their potential.
