Dodgers Max Muncy’s hand injury diagnosed as contusion after HBP vs. Rangers

The Los Angeles Dodgers were met with an early setback in spring training as Max Muncy, a key player in their lineup, suffered a hand contusion during Wednesday’s game against the Texas Rangers.

The injury occurred when Muncy was hit by a pitch, prompting concerns among Dodgers’ fans and team management alike.

Despite the setback, Muncy displayed remarkable resilience, staying in the game after the incident and contributing defensively for a few innings.

However, he was eventually pulled from the game before his second at-bat as a precautionary measure.

The 33-year-old infielder signed a two-year contract with the Dodgers in November 2023, worth $24 million through 2025.

His performance in the 2023 season was impressive, tying a career-high with 36 home runs and setting a new career-high with 105 RBIs while maintaining a .212/.333/.475 slash line.

Since joining the Dodgers in 2018, Muncy has been a consistent offensive force, hitting 35 or more home runs four times in six seasons. Despite the injury concerns, his contributions to the team have been invaluable.

Suppose Muncy is sidelined due to his hand contusion. In that case, the Dodgers will rely on their star-studded lineup, featuring players like Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Mookie Betts, to maintain their offensive firepower as they prepare for the upcoming season.
