Kansas City Chiefs Star Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed Allowed to Look for Trade Options as he Approaches Free Agency

Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl winning cornerback  L’Jarius Sneed could be on the move in the offseason. Earlier reports suggested the organization were interested in franchise tagging Sneed this offseason but a new report from NFL insider Ian Rapaport states that the defensive player has been given the teams blessing to seek a trade.

March 5 is the deadline for teams to franchise tag a player and the Chiefs may still designate Sneed with the tag and proceed with a trade in the coming weeks or months. The franchise tag for a cornerback will cost the Chiefs 19.8 million if they choose to pursue that option.

The relationship between the NFL champions and one of the game’s top cornerbacks seems to be coming to an end. Alongside Trent McDuffie, Kansas City boasted one of the most dangerous defensive back duos in the league in 2023.

Since being drafted by the franchise in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, Sneed has developed his game to become an efficient and highly capable defensive player. The 27-year-old was a member to the 2023 Super Bowl winning team that defeated the Philadelphia Eagles and the 2024 team that defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the championship.

Over four seasons in the NFL, Sneed has recorded 10 interceptions, 303 tackles and recovered three fumbles.

Sneed is still on a rookie contract but could be in line for a lucrative long-term deal in the near future. There will be plenty of teams interested in a player that has improved year-over-year since joining the NFL.
