Major kick-off rule change could happen soon as NFL rules committee puts the issue to a vote – 24 owners need to okay move

The NFL could see a major rule change regarding kick offs in the 2024 season as voting for changes comes to a head in Orlando later this month.

24 owners have to agree to the proposed changes, regarding the ball landing between the 20 yard and the goal line.

A further change will see 11 members of the kicking team line up at various intersections.

If the ball goes over the dead ball line the play will move to the receining team’s 35 yard line.

No player other than the receiver who catches the ball until it is caught or lands between the 0-20 zone.

The league’s overriding concern is avoiding high impact collisions but will effectively moot the need for a 75-yard kicking specialist.

There is no consensus if this will reach the 24-vote threshold, but it is on the table.
