Oklahoma softball team’s NCAA-record 71-game winning streak ends

The University of Oklahoma softball team’s historic 71-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday as they fell 7–5 to Louisiana in a nail-biting eight-inning clash.

The Sooners, reigning national champions, had not faced defeat since February of the previous year when they stumbled against Big 12 rival Baylor. With this unexpected loss, the team’s 2024 season record now stands at 18–1.

The game took a dramatic turn in the seventh inning when the Sooners found themselves trailing 4–2. However, a remarkable comeback was orchestrated with clutch singles by Tiare Jennings and Riley Ludlam, allowing two runs to score and pushing the game into extra innings.

Unfortunately for the Sooners, Louisiana managed to rack up three runs, in the eighth inning. Despite their efforts, the Sooners could only muster one run in response, sealing the end of their remarkable winning streak.

This defeat comes on the heels of a dominant 8–0 victory against the Ragin’ Cajuns just a day earlier.

Oklahoma’s focus now shifts to their upcoming matchup against Texas A&M Commerce on Wednesday, March 6.
