Vikings QB Kirk Cousins is now a free agent and is rumored to be choosing between a return to the franchise or possibly joining the Atlanta Falcons.
As for the Minnesota, keeping Cousins is a choice, but there are a lot of draft pick options to consider for a quarterback. The team head coach Kevin O’Connell asserts he will go through the usual free agency process, meaning without a quarterback for the franchise.
In case the Vikings are entering the trade market, Rich Eisen believes Trey Lance, the current Dallas third-string, could be the option.
On The Rich Eisen Show, Eisen said Lance"s name is connected to the Vikings as their backup plan if Cousins bolts in free agency.
Commenting on the Viking quarterback situation, Eisen said,
"I heard this rumor, that a possible solve at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings is a native of the state, and his name is Trey Lance. Trey Lance is a possible solution for the Vikings. Now, the Cowboys kept him on the roster long enough to get a bonus, so they"re paying the money to keep him. They got him for a [fifth-round pick]. I"m just wondering if the Vikings flip them a [third-round pick], a Friday night pick, do they go ahead and do that? I"m just saying, a possibility out there, the kid"s from the state, and that might be an answer."
Lance was selected as the third-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers and was traded to Dallas prior to the 2023 season.
After his season-ending ankle injury in Week 2 in 2022, he has not started an NFL game and was replaced by Jimmy Garoppolo and then Brock Purdy in San Francisco. Eventually the 49ers traded him, he did not play at all this year for the Cowboys.
