Buffalo will designate him as a post-June 1 cut, which will save them $10.2 million in salary cap space, with $6.2M in dead money. His contract will remain on Buffalo’s books until then, but he’s free to sign with a new team as early as next week.”
He was the NFL’s best defensive player, who finished fifth in the 2019 Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year race. He led the NFL with six interceptions that year en route to All-Pro honors.
Releasing White will roughly clear $4 million in salary cap space, the Bills had also released other players including safety Jordan Poyer, center Mitch Morse, and defensive back Siran Neal.
Earlier the Bills were reported to be approximately $40 million over the 2024 salary cap and White being released came as the cap one of the reasons his injury history seems to be primary.
White appeared in only six games in 2022 because of a serious knee injury, only to go down again with a season-ending Achilles injury this past season.
His career with the Bills ended after seven seasons and 18 interceptions, who had joined the Bills as a first-round choice (No. 27 overall) out of LSU in 2017.
As per records, he has suffered two significant injuries in recent years, a torn ACL that prematurely ended his 2021 campaign, and a torn Achilles that cut 2023 short after four weeks.
