Reports confirmed that the Miami Dolphins’ reputed cornerback is parting ways with the team. Dismissing any prospect of return, Howard stated publically on WQAM, “That door is closed.”

Howard embarked on his professional NFL journey with the Dolphins back in 2016. He has proved to be a top-flight player leaving a significant mark with his spectacular performance over these past eight years.

However, his impending departure signals the end of an era that Dolphin fans will remember for years to come.

The Dolphins stand to reap significant benefits from releasing Howard, as this decision undeniably frees up ample cap space.

Initially, Dolphins General Manager, Chris Grier, speculated there might be a chance of a probable reunion.

That was if the All-Pro Howard didn’t snag a suiting deal with another team. Yet, Howard’s firm stance on the matter now shatters any such possibilities.

As per the contractual proceedings, Xavien Howard is due to be assigned as a post-June 1 cut.

This status means he won’t officially be recognized as a free agent until the onset of the new league year, which starts next week.

Once Howard’s status as a free agent is official, he’ll be free to negotiate with any interested franchises.

A switch to new surroundings might invigorate the seasoned player.

He would undoubtedly be eager to showcase the skill-set honed through his remarkable eight-year tenure with the Dolphins.
