Gavin Lux’s progress will be crucial for him to secure the role of everyday shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season.
Manager Dave Roberts has not yet confirmed Lux as the regular starter, emphasizing that performance will be a determining factor.

Lux was expected to take over the starting shortstop position last season but missed the entire 2023 season due to a knee injury.
However, concerns have arisen regarding Lux’s defense, as he made errors on his first two ground balls this spring and has had difficulties throwing accurately to first base.
Roberts acknowledges that it will take time for Lux to regain his major league speed and form.
Nevertheless, Lux has shown promise with a batting average of .348 and a .423 on-base percentage in eight spring training games.
Unfortunately, Lux will not have the opportunity to play as the designated hitter, as Shohei Ohtani occupies that role this season.
Miguel Rojas, a veteran, took over as shortstop last season, contributing with his above-average defense.
The Dodgers have a limited timeframe to make a decision as they open the regular season on March 20th against the San Diego Padres in South Korea.
