Umpire Angel Hernandez Ejects Lance Lynn Twice During Cardinals-Nationals Spring Training Game

Lance Lynn, a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, found himself ejected from a Grapefruit League game against the Washington Nationals on Friday. Umpire Angel Hernandez gave Lynn the boot in the third inning for disputing calls during an at-bat against Nationals outfielder Joey Gallo.

Instead of immediately leaving the field, Lynn headed to the bullpen with the intention of finishing his scheduled pitching session for the day. However, Hernandez objected to this and sent another umpire to instruct Lynn to leave the field entirely. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol protested Hernandez’s decision and was also ejected from the game.

The game came to a standstill as Lynn and Marmol made their way off the field, with Lynn even giving a wave to the crowd before departing for good. Lynn later commented that Hernandez, known for his quick trigger when it comes to ejecting players and managers, was already in “midseason form.”

The incident highlights the tension that can sometimes arise between players, managers, and umpires during baseball games. Despite the ejections, the game ultimately resumed, but the interaction between Lynn, Marmol, and Hernandez certainly added an unexpected twist to the matchup.
