NFL Announces 2024 Compensatory Picks With Jaguars, Eagles, Rams, 49ers Receiving Additional Third-Round Picks

The NFL Draft is just 46 days away and teams are doing everything in their power to acquire as many picks as possible over the coming weeks. On Friday, several organization’s received a boost with the NFL awarding the yearly compensatory picks.

The Jacksonville Jaguars received the highest compensatory pick with 96th overall pick followed by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 97th overall pick. The Eagles received four total picks, including one third-round pick, two fifth-round picks and one sixth round pick.

The Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers receiving the third and fourth highest compensatory picks, the 98th and 99th overall picks, respectively. Both teams will go into next years draft with a healthy amount of draft capital after receiving a league-high five compensatory picks. The Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and New York Jets each received three additional selections.

A formula has been put in place by the league to calculate compensatory picks with teams rewarded if a minority coach is hired by another NFL team as a head coach or primary football executive. Former Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris was recently announced as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, awarding a third-round pick to Los Angeles.

Overall a total of 34 compensatory picks were handed out to 14 different organizations.

Some fans may snark at the idea of lower round draft picks but any selection can turn out to be the next Patrick Mahomes or Micah Parsons. Tom Brady was the 199th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. Brock Purdy, otherwise known as Mr. Irrelevant, was the last pick of the 2022 draft. Both players have had tremendous success in the league.
