“Nobody vote for him this year” Cubs SS Dansby Swanson Stunned After Realizing Mookie Betts is his Competition for Coveted All-Star Spot

Athlete-generated content is the new big thing and no one does it better than Los Angeles Dodgers Mookie Betts. The former American League MVP and two-time World Series champion’s On Base with Mookie Betts has emerged as one of the top podcasts in the baseball world.

Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson was the latest guest on the podcast and the two players share a lot in common. Both play the same position, both play in the National League, both have been selected to multiple All-Star games and won a World Series.

The two infielders shared some fascinating insights into the game but the conversation took a comical turn when Swanson realized he would now be competing against Betts for an All-Star spot.

“I just thought about that,” complained Swanson when thinking about the upcoming All-Star vote. “Nobody vote for him this year, ok? He is a utility guy.”

Mookie Betts played the shortstop position during his younger days but has mostly been used as a second baseman and outfielder since making his MLB debut in 2014. This season, he is set to return to the position for the Dodgers.

The departure of Trea Turner in 2023 left a void in the Dodgers infield that is yet to be filled. The club tried a long list of players at shortstop last year including Miguel Rojas, Enrique Hernandez and Chris Taylor. Gavin Lux was supposed to work his way up to the position but an injury saw him miss the entire 2023 season and he will likely be used at second base in 2024.

The competition in the National League between shortstops will be fierce next year. Along with Betts and Swanson, Trea Turner, Francisco Lindor, Ha-Seong Kim and Oneil Cruz will all have their eye on a spot at the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
