Ahmed was a standout player at the University of Washington but went undrafted in the 2020 draft before eventually getting signed by the San Francisco 49ers. The quick and agile running back didn’t last long in the Bay Area but was signed by the Miami Dolphins. He gradually worked his way up from the practice squad to the regular fixture in the lineup.
Last season, Ahmed played in eight games for the organization, finishing with 61 rushing yards and 88 receiving yards. He averaged 2.8 yards per attempt and finished with two total touchdowns.
Over four seasons with the Dolphins, the running back has racked up 593 rushing yards, 274 receiving yards and six total touchdowns.
The Dolphins running game was one of the best in the NFL last year with the team ranking sixth in the league. They averaged 135.8 yards per game and will be looking to return with that kind of production in 2024.
Ahmed will have his work cut out for him with several top running backs on the roster including De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert both returning next year.
