Baseball Players Age as Milk or Wine: Nick Castellanos

Nick Castellanos, a professional baseball player for the Philadelphia Phillies, recently shared some wisdom about aging in baseball.

He compared baseball players to milk and wine, stating that some players are like milk, which spoils over time, while others are like wine, which ages well. Castellanos believes there is no in-between; players are either milk or wine.

Last season, Castellanos’s performance was compared to wine that aged well throughout most of the year but spoiled in the NLCS. He hopes to have an even better season this year after taking time to ferment and age.

Castellanos is known for his unique quotes and philosophical teachings. He once said, “I don’t have a college degree. I hit baseballs.”

He also showed his affinity for Philadelphia, saying, “I mean, yeah. I fuck with Philly.” Despite his straightforwardness, his words often make people pause and think.

Castellanos has had a successful career in Major League Baseball. He started with the Detroit Tigers in 2013 and has also played for the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds. He was selected to play in the All-Star Game and received the Silver Slugger Award in 2021.

Following the season, he signed a five-year contract with the Phillies. In 2022, he batted .263/.305/.389, making him one of the top hitters in the league.

Notably, Castellanos was the last out of the 2022 World Series, which was won by the Houston Astros. However, in the 2023 National League Division Series, he made history by hitting multiple home runs in consecutive postseason games.

Castellanos brings a unique perspective to the game of baseball and continues to make an impact on and off the field.
