Gerrit Cole, the star pitcher for the New York Yankees, is set to undergo an MRI on his elbow following a potential injury.
Last season, Cole was a vital player for the team, consistently performing well even in difficult times.
However, just days before the season opener, fans received concerning news.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced that Cole would undergo an MRI on his pitching elbow due to trouble with his recovery between starts.
Cole himself likened the pain to what he experiences during the season after throwing 100 pitches.

"First, they had four Yankee doctors look at it – they found no tear and they felt that he could probably try to do rest and rehab."@JonHeyman joins #MLBTonight to give insight on the timeline and details of Gerrit Cole's elbow injury. pic.twitter.com/rZxIn8fZJA

This injury adds to the list of challenges faced by the Yankees’ starting rotation, with other pitchers also dealing with injuries and other issues.
With Cole potentially out of action, the team will likely be scrambling to find a replacement, and there is a growing desire to sign Blake Snell.
The MRI is considered precautionary, but Cole’s difficulty in recovering is a cause for concern.
Since signing a lucrative contract with the Yankees in 2019, 33-year-old pitcher Cole has proved his worth.
Over the course of four seasons with the team, he boasts an impressive record of 51 wins and 23 losses, with a 3.08 ERA and 816 strikeouts.
Cole’s accomplishments include three All-Star appearances and a breakthrough performance last season, winning the AL Cy Young Award.
Unfortunately, the Yankees faced numerous injuries in 2023, with key players missing significant playing time.
Cole, on the other hand, remained a reliable and dominant force on the mound.
As the team prepares for the upcoming season, they hope for improved health from their other pitchers and have recently signed Marcus Stroman.
Losing Cole would deal a major blow to their chances of rebounding from last year’s lackluster performance.
With Opening Day approaching, there is concern surrounding Cole’s health and the impact his potential absence would have on the team.
Should the need arise, the Yankees still have the option of signing free agents Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery, both of whom have notable accomplishments in their careers.

Maybe pitching 8-9 innings / 100+ pitches down the stretch last year, for a team going nowhere, wasn’t such a great idea

Awful news for Judge and Cole the two irreplaceable Yankees.

The sad thing is most of these cases they try to treat with rest/rehab and it doesn’t work.

If the doc in LA finds something that the Yankee docs didn't, something is very wrong. 1 doctor missing something is 1 thing, but 4?

What do you mean try conservative treatment before something more drastic? If Cole doesn’t have a UCL tear, what else can he do but rest?

Try to do? So they don't even know if it would work? Just rip the bandaid off man. It never ends well ignoring surgery

Why the hell @MLBNetwork gives this hack ANY air time is beyond me. Nothing more than a gossip columnist but with even less integrity.

I'd go to literally any other doc than ones provided by the Yankees
