UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev seems to be ready to fight, approaching Dustin Poirier as the best option for his desired timetable.

Daniel Cormier, two-division UFC world champion, and a UFC Hall Of Fame fighter, on his show shared,

"I feel [Islam Makhachev] is even more dangerous than Khabib [Nurmagomedov] was during his prime."

Makhachev (25-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) said he wanted to defend his 155-pound title in March, he shared on Thursday,

"Now I’m healthy. I told them I will be ready in March, but they asked me to fight at the beginning of February – that time I had a small injury. I wasn’t 100 percent. But I told them in March I will be ready. But they say, ‘In March, we don’t have any options.’ I said, OK, I have the belt. Just give someone. I will be ready."

The promotion had informed told him there was no opponent available, Makhachev had said he was training every day and waiting for a fight offer and date.

Poirier (30-8 MMA, 22-7 UFC) scored a brutal second-round knockout of Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299 this past weekend, an incredible highlight-reel knockout.

At UFC 302, which is expected to take place June 1, Makhachev and his team push for a showdown with "The Diamond".

With Makhachev needing an opponent as early as June, "The Diamond" might have just punched his ticket to one last opportunity at undisputed UFC gold.

After Poirier"s victory against Benoit Saint-Denis fans are demanding UFC and Poirier to fight for UFC lightweight championship once again against UFC lightweight champion Makhachev.
