According to a league official, the NFL is investigating whether the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons broke any tampering rules during the tampering time that was permitted.
The teams were allowed to begin negotiations with the unrestricted free agents and the four-time Pro Bowl eminent veteran quarterback, Kirk Cousins, agreed to a contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
The Philadelphia Eagles also quickly moved to finalize an agreement with the two-time Pro Bowl, prominent wide receiver, Saquon Barkley. Cousins has signed a four-year $180 million deal with the Falcons and Barkley has signed a three-year $37.75 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Penn State head coach, James Franklin also indicated in his remarks, which he made earlier, that the general manager of the Eagles, Howie Roseman, contacted Saquon directly and shared the similarities in fan base of both the Philadelphia squad and Penn State.
However, Barkley clarified what it was regarding and, via ESPN, mentioned, “The truth was the sales pitch of how many Penn State fans are Philadelphia Eagles fans, that was through my agent. My agent told me that.”
The negotiation time that is given allows the team to engage with the agents directly. The teams cannot speak to players unless they represent themselves and do not have an agent. The Philadelphia Eagles have “denied” the claims.
The Falcons had also issued a statement that said, “due to the NFL’s review, we are unable to provide information or have additional comment.”
Cousins also shared during his introductory press conference, “There’s great people here. And it’s not just the football team. I mean, I’m looking at the support staff. Meeting — calling, yesterday, calling our head athletic trainer, talking to our head of PR I’m thinking, we got good people here. And that’s exciting to be a part of.”
According to Fox News, the league’s official has confirmed to Associated Press that it is reviewing both the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles for tampering violations.
