Jerome Bettis, Jr. follows Hall of Fame father to Notre Dame

Jerome Bettis Jr., son of the legendary Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis, has made a significant decision in his football journey.

Following in his father’s illustrious footsteps, Bettis, Jr. has committed to the prestigious Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Amid offers from other esteemed programs such as Duke, Texas A&M, and Mississippi, Bettis, Jr. opted to join the Notre Dame roster.

He is transitioning from his former position as a running back to that of a receiver.

Despite his father’s iconic number, 36, Bettis, Jr. has made a symbolic shift, now donning the number 4, emphasizing his determination to forge his own legacy.

Reflecting on his decision, Bettis, Jr. conveyed to ESPN.com, “One of the biggest things was changing my number, and so me really getting my number away from his, that was a big step for me realizing that at the end of the day, I’m my own man… I create my own legacy and my own journey.”

Opting for a position with potentially greater longevity and financial prospects, Bettis, Jr.’s move to receiver showcases strategic foresight. In contrast to the physically demanding role of a running back, receivers often enjoy more extended careers and lucrative contracts in the NFL.

In addition to charting his own path, Bettis, Jr. also stands apart from his father in physique, boasting a height advantage of three inches and weighing over 50 pounds lighter.
